It was in response to the construction of the Tower of Babel that God confused the languages of man and divided the earth into nations (Gen 11:1-9). This happened in the lifetime of Peleg, the great, great, great, grandson of Noah (Gen 10:22-25). At this time God divided mankind into nations according to the number of the angelic sons of God, with each being responsible for a nation (Deut 32:8-9). However, the sons of God did not rule justly and were partial to the wicked (Ps 82:1-2). As a result at a future time when the foundations of the earth will be shaken (Ps 82:5; Isa 24:19-20), the wicked host of heaven will be gathered together in a pit (Isa 24:22a). This will no doubt be the bottomless pit of the abyss (Rev 9:1). This will occur at the same time as Satan is bound in the abyss (Rev 20:1-3). Following the resurrection of the faithful sons of God at the second coming of Christ, the resurrected saints will replace the unfaithful sons of God in the divine council and will reign with Christ over the nations. Satan will be released for a short time at the end of the millennium (Rev 20:7-10), but not the other unfaithful sons of God. Then after many days they will be punished (Isa 24:22b) and will die like men (Ps 82:7) and will join Satan in the lake of fire (Rev 20:10).
