Two sections of Luke 21 describe the signs which will precede the second coming of Christ (Luke 21:8-11 and 25-27). The verses in between these two sections begin and end with chronological markers, showing that Luke is returning to discuss the events preceding and following the destruction of the temple in A.D. 70. The intervening verses begin with “But before all these things” (21:12) and end with the “the times of the Gentiles” which last from the destruction of the temple until the second coming of Christ (21:24).
