When God dispersed mankind into nations (Gen 11:1-9), he put an angelic son of God over each nation (Deut 32:8) but kept Jacob as his own portion (Deut 32:9). However, these sons of God turned out to be wicked and unjust in their rule over their individual nations (Ps 85:2-7). The final outcome will be that in the millennium “many nations shall join themselves to the LORD in that day” and become part of God’s people (Zech 2:11), but God’s own personal inheritance will remain Jacob/Judah (Zech 2:12).
