A chiasm is a literary structure where vocabulary of the first section of a passage is repeatedin the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In 2 Corinthians 1:23-24 the center and climax is the Paul considered himself a worker with the Corinthians for their joy (2 Cor 1:24b). A But I call God as witness to my soul, that to spare you I did not come again to Corinth. Not that we lord it over your faith, (1:23-24a) B but are workers with you for your joy; (1:24b) A’ for in your faith you are standing firm.(1:24c)
