The Chiasm of John 12:47-48
A chiasm is a literary structure where vocabulary of the first section of a passage is repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In John 12:47-48 the center and climax is the words of Jesus, “I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world (John 12:47b-c).
