The Chiasm of John 3:16-18
A chiasm is a literary structure where vocabulary of the first section of a passage is repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In John 3:16-18 the center and climax is “God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him” (John 317).
