A chiasm is a literary structure where vocabulary of the first section of a passage is repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Mark 11:11-27 the center and climax is Jesus in the temple saying, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it robbers’ den.” But when the chief priests and scribes heard this they began seeking how to destroy him (Mark 11:17-18).
