A chiasm is a literary structure where the vocabulary of the first section of a passage is repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Mark 1:40-45 the center and climax is the leper saying to Jesus, “If You are willing, You can make me clean” and Jesus replying, “I am willing; be cleansed” (Mark 1:40-41).
