A chiasm is a literary structure where vocabulary of the first section of a passage is repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Mark 3:13-19 the center and climax is the tree purposes of Jesus appointing the twelve, that they would be with him, that they would preach and that they cast out demons (Mark 3:14b-15).
