A chiasm is a literary structure where vocabulary of the first section of a passage is repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Mark 4:1-2 the center describes Jesus finding it necessary to teach the large crowd from a boat in the Sea of Galilee (Mark 4:1b-c).
