A chiasm is a literary structure where the words or themes of the first section of a passage are repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 1:1-17, the center is the genealogy of Abraham, proving Jesus to be a descendant of Abraham (Matt 1:1c-15).
