A chiasm is a literary structure where the words of the first section of a passage are repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 13:3-23, there are two centers. The first is that the disciples have been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom whereas unbelievers have not been granted this (Matt 13:11).. The second center is “whoever has, to him more shall be given… but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him (Matt 13:12).
