A chiasm is a literary structure where the words of the first section of a passage are repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 16:21-28, the center indicates that whoever losses his life for Jesus’ sake will find it and that gaining the whole world is not worth forfeiting one’s soul.(Matt 16:25-26).
