A chiasm is a literary structure where the words of the first section of a passage are repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 17:1-9, the climax is the voice out of the cloud saying, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!” (Matt 17:5).
