A chiasm is a literary structure where the themes of the first section of a passage are in this case contrasted in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 17:22-23 the climax is Jesus’ statement: “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men; and they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day” (Matt 17:22).
