A chiasm is a literary structure where the words or themes of the first section of a passage are repeated in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 19:1-9, In the climax is Jesus explaining divorce in the Old Testament by saying, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way” Matt 19:7-8).
