The Chiasm of Matthew 20:17-19
A chiasm is a literary structure where the words of the first section of a passage are repeated in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 20:17-19, the center is “He took the twelve disciples aside by themselves”(Matt 20:17b) to share his upcoming arrest, death, and resurrection .
