A chiasm is a literary structure where the words and themes of the first section of a passage are repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 21:12-17, the climax is Jesus evaluation of the temple,” ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ den” (Matt 21:13b-c).
