A chiasm is a literary structure where the words or themes of the first section of a passage are repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 7:28-8:1, the center and climax is that he taught with authority, not as the scribes (Matt 7:29).
