The Chiasm of Matthew 8:28-32
A chiasm is a literary structure where the words or themes of the first section of a passage are repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 8:28-32, the climax is the demons asking to be sent into the herd of swine, and, when Jesus complies, the herd drowns itself (Matt 8:29-32).
