A chiasm is a literary structure where the themes of the first section of a passage are repeated in reverse order in the second. Typically whatever is in the center of the chiasm is what is being emphasized. In Genesis 25:19-35:22, in the center is the fertility of Jacob’s wives (29:31-30:24) and the fertility of his flocks (Gen 30:25-43).
