The Chiastic Structure of the Gospel of John
A chiasm is a literary structure where vocabulary of the first section of a passage is repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax. The whole gospel of John is written as a chiasm. The center is John 10:18a -b. There in speaking of his laying down his life, Jesus says, ” No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.”
