In praying to God in Nehemiah 1:5, Nehemiah appeals to God as the one “who preserves the covenant.” The covenant to which he is appealing is the Mosaic Covenant, first given in Exodus 20 and then renewed in Exodus 34 and in the Book of Deuteronomy. In his prayer of Nehemiah 9, he is appealing to the Abrahamic Covenant.
